SECTION 2: PRODUCT INGREDIENTS

 

Chemical properties:

Borosilicate glass, composed of SiO2, Na2O, K2O, CaO, MgO, AL2O3 and B2O3

Aluminum foil - 99,5 % AL

Glue - type VP 1446/3 (see attached the MSDS for the glue)

 


SECTION 3: HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Dust from fibrous glass is classified as a nuisance dust. The American Council for Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has assigned a threshold limit value (TLV) of 10 mg/m3. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established a permissible exposure limit of 3 fibers/cc and 10 mg/m3, respectively.

Effects of Over-exposure:

Inhalation: May cause mild irritation to the upper respiratory tract.
Skin: Fiber larger than 5 microns in diameter may cause mild irritation.
Eyes: Irritation

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If irritation persists, obtain medical attention
Skin: Wash with soap and cool water. If irritation persists obtain medical attention.

SECTION 15: REGULATORY INFORMATION

This product has not been classified a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), or the National Toxicology Program (NTP).

Glass wool (respirable size) has been classified by NTP as reasonable anticipated to be a carcinogen, IARC has classified glass wool as possibly carcinogenic to humans, Group 2B. OSHA has not classified glass wool fibers.

The OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs), identified in Section 2 are based upon the revised PELs of 1988. OSHA has been challenged by the courts to provide more information about its update process. Until these issues are resolved, Lauscha Fiber International GmbH will continue to list these PELs.

This product and its components are listed on Toxic Substances Control Act Chemical Substance Inventory (TSCA).
