CHOPPED STRAND
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET 01 Material / preparation and company designation
Product information Chopped textile glass fiber
Manufacturer / supplier information
02 Composition / component information Chemical characteristics: E-Glass Preparation: Cutting of continuous glass filaments
03 Possible Risks Glass fiber can lead to temporary irritation on skin, mucous membrane and eyes as well as overreaction due to sizing components.
04 First Aid General advice: Gently remove fiber from skin, mucous membrane or eyes. Mucous membrane contact: Encourage coughing with mucous producing solutions (i.e. inhalation of water steam) Skin contact: Gently remove fiber with water or soap. Eye contact: Gently remove coarse fiber, rinse fine fiber with water from nose to eye corner. When swallowed: Without importance. Indication for physician: No specific medical precaution necessary.
05 Fire-fighting information Chopped Strand are not combustible. Combustible are packing material such as cardboard, PE foil and wood. Recommended extinguisher: Water, foam, powder.
06 Measures to be taken on the event of involuntary release Personal precautions: None Environment: Textile glass products are ecologically harmless. Disposal measures: - See local decrees. - Abfall- und Reststoffüberwachungsverordnung (Waste- and disposal decree) of 03.04.1990 Cleaning: No need for special cleaning precautions or rules.
07 Handling and Storage Handling: Wear safety gear (gloves, glasses, dust mask) in order to minimize the possible risk of contact with skin, mucous membrane and eyes and decrease, irritations and allergies. Storage: Store dry and in manufacturer bag. Avoid direct sun light. Best storage conditions: - temperature below 86° F (30° C) - humidity between 50 and 75 %
08 Exposure limitation and personal protective equipment Additional information for the design of the technical plant. Vacuum-cleaning at the job site for fine fiber dust. Guaranty of defined climate for processing: Temperature at approx. 25° C (68° F), humidity between 50 and 75 %
Components and limits to be monitored at the job site: None.
Protective personal equipment: Not necessary.

11 Toxicological Data Textile glass products do not contain hazardous or toxical ingredients according to the GefStoffV of 26.08.1986. Textile glass products are not carcinogenic. They have a nominal filament diameter of > 10 m m. The smallest possible filament diameter is 6 m m. According to the TRGS 905 (April 1995) fine fiber dust can be carcinogenic only if all following conditions are fulfilled: Fiber length > 5m m, diameter < 3m m, ratio of length to diameter > 3:1.
12 Ecological Information Textile glass fiber are made from mineral raw material and do not have essential organic substances. They are not biologically decomposable. Textile glass fiber are ecologically harmless.
13 Waste Disposal Information Waste materials identification code: 31416 Mineral fiber waste Textile glass fiber are not materials according to the hazardous material decree. Rules to notice for disposal: - local waste disposal decrees - "Abf Rest Überw V" (Abfall- und Reststoffüberwachungs-Verordnung) of 03.04.1990
14 Transportation
Transportation ADR/RID and GGVS/GGVE (across the borders/domestic) Textile glass fiber are not materials in the sense of the hazardous material decree (Gefahrstoffverordnung) of 26.08.1986. Therefore there are no special measures necessary for the transportation and labeling by land, sea or air. Transport in closed vehicles in original packaging to protect from humidity.
15 Regulations
Labeling according to EC(EWG)-Regulations Identification letter and hazardous sign for product: None Hazardous component(s) for labeling purposes: None
Domestic Regulations Additional classification according to GefStoffV: Not applicable Information for employment restrictions: None Fault Ordinance: Not applicable Classification according to VbF: Not applicable Technical instructions air: Not applicable Water pollution classification: Not applicable Further regulations: None
